Frank Frazetta’s The Executioner was commissioned for the cover of Warren’s Creepy #17 in 1967. A solitary hooded figure grips a bloodied axe atop a stepped platform, silhouetted against a fiery sky. The issue included “Heritage of Horror,” written by Archie Goodwin, and the Frazetta Art Museum notes that the painting was exhibited at the Museum of American Illustration in 2005.
