Warrior on Steed (The Defender)
Frank Frazetta's "Warrior on Steed" (1984)
This painting was used as the cover for Russ Cochran's 1986 Frank Frazetta: Auction One catalog, and could not be more representative of the Frazetta style. It somewhat resembles his classic Death Dealer character, with a mysterious armored figure and a snorting steed from hell. All the Frazetta hallmarks are here, with powerful composition and minimal but haunting background details. This artwork is believed to be a detailed oil study for a larger painting, which never came about. The original artwork area is 11.5inches x 15.5inches. The original artwork is now owned by George Lucas and will be on display at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, set to open in early 2023.
